No. 1 - The Art House
This family home houses more than just relatives and friends; its residents have turned it into a gallery of sorts, adorning its walls with photos and art from their many travels, along with some personal masterpieces from their loved ones.
A huge consideration for the exterior of the house was ensuring the design maintained a sense of place, allowing it to blend seamlessly into the rest of the neighborhood without compromising any of its own personality.
The Art House features exterior porches on three of its four faces, allowing for seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor gathering spaces.
The double-height ceiling in the main living space creates a feeling of grandness that mimics the views just beyond the balcony. The single-height spaces just off the living space—the kitchen, dining area, sunroom, and TV room—allow for pockets of coziness that help to balance the grandeur.
The wood slat ceiling in the sunroom is nearly identical to the ceiling in the home office and acts as a visual connector across the two ends of the main floor.
The quilt-style tile was a collaborative choice between us and the client, further building upon their love of incorporating artistry into every corner of the home.
The main staircase spans all four floors of the home and acts as a moment of intrigue the moment you walk through the front door.
