A small cottage on Maine’s oceanfront that carries the relaxed charm of coastal living through both the exterior and interior of this two-story home.
This oceanfront cottage was nicknamed “The Seagull House” after the home’s location on Maine’s coastal dunes, where seagulls are often seen dotting the horizon.
The coastal-facing windows allow for impressive amounts of natural sunlight and allow residents to see the shoreline from nearly every room in the house.
Angled wooden slats form the stair balcony and bring a sense of movement and flow into the space while also allowing for a play with light and shadows.
An open concept plan for the kitchen, living, and dining areas allows for an element of airiness that mimics the seemingly endless dunes just beyond the home’s back porch.
This airiness is only expanded by the main room’s high ceilings and, especially, by its custom built-in system, allowing for clutter-free personal storage.
There wasn’t a corner of this home left undesigned. Proof of that is seen here in the curved banister, which allows for another functional window in the bedroom’s wall of ocean-facing windows.
