This three-story cottage sits on the edge of Maine’s largest freshwater bays and at the intersection of relaxation and recreation.
No. 5 - The Stone Cottage
While the cottage's second floor sits at street level, the land's natural slope makes the first floor feel like anything but a basement, with lake-facing windows offering prime views from every floor of the house, including the lofted upstairs area.
Symmetry was one of the main, client-driven design factors of the home, as seen especially in the lake-facing windows. The one break in symmetry occurs in the slant of the main staircase, making the connection between the levels a focal point in the main space.
The open layout of the main gathering space is complemented by smaller pockets of more individual-focused spaces, such as the lofted office space and even the porch, which, while large enough to seat the whole family, is also large enough to harbor more conversation areas.
